Funeral services for Barbara Jean Heggar Prater will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, beginning at 11am at St. Marys Catholic Church in Cottonport with Fr. Jose RoblesSanchez officiating. Burial will be held at the Sheppard of the Hill Cemetery in Plaucheville. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 beginning at 8am until 11am at the Escud Funeral Home in Cottonport. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Escud Funeral Home.
Barbara H. Prater was born November 8, 1942 to the late George Heggar, Sr. Winnie Rose Benjamin Heggar and passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at her home in Cottonport. She was baptized at an early age and attended school at Moreauville School. She met and married the love of her life
Jimmie Clyde Prater and from this union five children were born: three girls and two boys. Barbara enjoyed life and loved to travel and visit family. She loved her great gumbos and soups no matter how she felt. Moma was always talkative and has a friendly personality. She made friends easily and loved life to the fullest. She will truly be missed. Her special thing was flying to Pennsylvania and sitting at the window checking out the clouds. She was preceded in death by her parents George, Sr. Winnie A. Heggar three brothers, Leonard Heggar, Lloyde Heggar and Richard Heggar.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jimmie Clyde Prater of Cottonport, three daughters: Marilyn Gregory Chenevert of Morgan City, La Beverly Otis Prater of Evergreen, La Jayne Prater of Franklin, La two sons: Mark Prater and Michael Donna Brown Prater both of Franklin, La. She also leaves to cherish her memory two brothers: Eugene Monica Heggar of Cottonport, La and George Mildred Heggar of Mansura, La four sisters: Patsy Ruth Dave Davis of Houston, Tx Patricia Heggar of Cottonport, La Cynthia Curtis Day of Bunkie, La and Mary Katherine Turner of Houston, Tx two sisterinlaws: Florence Peter Compton of Compton, CA and Elmarie Prater of Cottonport eleven grandchildren, thirteen greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends especially Mr. Buck and Mrs. Donna and a special thanks to our aunt Cynthia who was there every day to assist with mothers care and Eric Washington for assisting dad and mother loved him dearly. Barbara will always be remembered by her family and friends. We will miss her dearly but what eases the pain is that we know that someday we will all be together again and that moms suffering is over and God is keeping her in his safe hands.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Gregory Chenevert, Jr., Clyde Prater, Bryan Heggar, Ryan Heggar, Chad Heggar, Eric Washington, Katchtrin Day, and Robert Prater and honorary pallbearers will be Gregory Chenevert, Sr., Mark Prater, Curtis Day, Eugene Heggar, Jr. Heggar, and Michael Prater, Sr.
