Funeral services for Bertha Boniol Gremillion will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Hessmer with Father Edwin Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Alphonsus Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura, LA, with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will re-open Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
Bertha Gremillion age 81, a resident of Hessmer died Monday, January 25, 2016 in the Hessmer Nursing Home. She loved sports and played for Mansura High - basketball, softball and volleyball. She loved to bowl and was the first female basketball referee (boys and girls) in the state of Louisiana. She was a member of the choir and Ladies Altar Society at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Rudolph Paul Gremillion; parents, Jules and Noemie (Lemoine) Boniol, sister, Adine Bordelon and a brother Eugene Boniol. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Carmen Lemoine and husband Chris of Pineville, Laura Gremillion Chenevert of Pineville and Janelle Gremillion Smith of Hessmer; sons, Blaine Gremillion and wife Rhonda of Mandeville and Clifton Gremillion and wife Tracey of Angola; sisters, Judy Bordelon of Alexandria and Domelise Lemoine of Mansura; brother, Steve Boniol of Alexandria; grandchildren, Renee' Lemoine Newcomb, Blake Lemoine, Ben Lemoine, Blaine Paul Gremillion, Jr., Kelli Gremillion, Jason Gremillion, Kendall Chenevert, Craig Chenevert, Kacie Chenevert, Ashley Smith Gaspard, Shane Smith, Cody Gremillion, Alex Gremillion, Brady Gremillion, Justin Gremillion and Shelby Carter, 11 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Blaine Paul Gremillion, Jr., Jason Gremillion, Blake Lemoine, Ben Lemoine, Kendall Chenevert, Craig Chenevert, Shane Smith, Cody Gremillion, Alex Gremillion, Brady Gremillion and Justin Gremillion.
Escude' Funeral Home of Mansura is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 3659 Main St., Hessmer, LA 71341.
The family would like to thank OakMont Estate Assisted Living, Hessmer Nursing Home and All Saints Hospice as well as their outstanding staffs for their care and compassion in making our mother's final years as pleasant and restful as possible.
