Charles John Prevost entered eternal rest on Friday, October 31, 2014, at Allen Parish Hospital in Kinder, LA. Charles John Prevost was born on June 27, 1949 in New Orleans, LA to Earline Prevot and Percy Jacobs. Charles was reared in New Orleans, LA by his mother Earline Jones and his stepfather Leonard Jones. Charles graduated from Joseph S. Clark Senior High School in New Orleans, LA and Grambling State University in Grambling, LA.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Linda McKinley on August 16, 1975. They were blessed with 39 years of marriage. Charless life epitomized true christianship through many devoted years of service to the church and the community. He served faithfully as Parish Council President for many years as well as Finance Council Member and before his death was on the Board of Trustee for Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Mansura, LA. He was also an altar server. Every first Friday of the month he would faithfully drive Father Martin Laird to deliver communion to the sick and shutins. In earlier years, he was a religion teacher for the 7th 8th grades at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic in Mansura, LA. in the year 2000, he was instrumental in starting a Rosary Group that meets every Sunday at 3:00pm. This Rosary Group still recite the rosary and the Divine Mercy prayer. He was a member of the Knight of St. Peter Claver Council 174 where he served as Grand Knight for many years. He was President of the Avoyelles Knights Ladies of St. Peter Claver and the Faithful Navigator of the Monsignor Henry Thompson Assembly 27 Fourth Degree. Charles was a Louisiana State Conference Board Member for District V Knights of St. Peter Claver. Charles really knew the meaning of Claverism.
In 1987 he was elected to the Mansura Town Council as Alderman and Mayor Protemp. Charles was always willing to help others especially his church. Every year for the annual Church Fair, he worked nonstop to make sure everything for the dinner was well prepared. Whenever a new priest came to Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church Parish, they knew who to call on for assistance.
Those he leaves to mourn cherish him are his devoted wife of 39 years Linda McKinley Prevost of Mansura, LA one son, Michael Higgins of New Orleans, LA two brothers, Nathaniel Jones, Sr. of Knoxville, TN, Armand Jones of Mesquite, TX two sisters, Beverly Godfrey Cleveland of New Orleans, LA, Charlene Jones of Cottonport, LA five godchildren, Cathy Holmes, Shanta McKinley, Carl Laguand, Vincent Sampson, Damarrion McKinley. Also his special cousins Deberia McKinley and Christine Robinson and his best friend, Paul Desselle of Alexandria, LA his uncle, Floyd Jones Elizabeth of Marksville, LA great uncle, Anthony Johnson Theresea of Mansura great aunt, Anita McKinley of Mansura, LA aunts, Dorothea LeGras of Alexandria, LA, Evelyn Augustine Joseph of St. Rose, LA, Genieve Sampson of Mansura, LA, Flossie Prevot of Indianapolis, Indiana motherinlaw, Agnes Mckinley of Mansura, LA sistersinlaw, Sarah Burnett Bill of Rialto, CA, Shirley Jackson Clyde of Mansfield, TX, Barbara McKinley of Mansura, LA, Margaret Celestine Stanley of Cottonport, LA, Carrie McKinley of Fontana, CA brothersinlaw, Robert McKinley Sara of Mansura, Glenn McKinley Tara of Mansura, LA, Donald McKinley Sharon of Mansura, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Earline Prevot Jones and stepfather Leonard Jones two brothers, Anthony Jones, Sr. and Carl Jones maternal grandparents, Theophile Verdie Prevot, Frederick Nellie Jones, and Walter Celina Jacobs.
Funeral services are as scheduled: Friday, November 14, 2014 at 5:00pm for the immediate family and then 6:00pm to 10:00pm at the Escude Funeral Home of Mansura, LA. A Christian wake service will begin at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 11:00am at the Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church of Mansura, LA. Burial will commence at the St. Paul Catholic Mausoleum in Mansura, LA.
