Services for Charles E. Spears of Simmesport will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 at the Simmesport Baptist Church in Simmesport with Brother David Kelone officiating. Services are under the direction of Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport, LA. Mr. Spears, age 88, died Tuesday May 6, 2008 at Bayou Chateau Nursing Home in Simmesport. He was a World War II veteran and retired from the Air Force reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Spears was an educator since the age of 19 with degrees from Northwestern State University, LSU and the University of Southern Mississippi where he received his Ph.D. He first taught at Bunkie High School, the Simmesport High School, Morrow High School, Nichols State University and was Avoyelles Parish Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Spears had a love of knowledge and traveled extensively after retirement. He was a deacon and very active in his church. He was preceded in death by his wife Annie Laurie Marchand Spears; parents James D. and Cora Curtis Spears; sons, Jimbo and Mark Spears; brothers, Larry, Luther and Biggy Spears. He is survived by 7 children Richard Spears of Katy, TX, Grady Spears of Arnouville, LA, Terry Ann Spears of Hollister, MO, Janine S. Mury of Simmesport, Beth Mire of Branson, MO, Doc Spears of Lettesworth, LA and Dr. Bobby Spears of San Antonio, TX; brother, Carl Dewey Spears of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Rose Marie Morgan of Smithfield, KY; 29 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Escude Funeral Home in Simmesport, a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday.
