Clarence Jones entered this life on October 27, 1929 as the third child of Walter Jones, Sr. and Octavia Batiste Jones in Cocoville, Louisiana. Clarence came to know Christ at an early age and was baptized in Old River by the late Rev. A .L. Holmes on Easter Sunday 1959 into the fellowship at Congregational St. John Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his passing, October 20, 2014 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Clarence graduated from Marksville colored High School on May 27, 1948. After graduating from high school, Clarence enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country very proudly from 1949 to 1954. After returning home from the military, he furthered his education and graduated from Grambling State University in 1958, earned a Masters Degree in Education from Southern University in 1974 and 30 hours above the masters from Louisiana State University and Southern University. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Priscilla Gilbert on May 30, 1956, to that union two children were born. Clarence taught school for 31 years beginning in Houma., Louisiana, later teaching at Mary McCloud Bethune High School and Marksville Middle School where he retired in 1984. Clarence was a dedicated servant for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ working in many capacities at St. John Community ChurchBaptist. Over the years, he was a Sunday School teacher and student, President of the Brotherhood Ministry, Deacon, Assistant Church Secretary, sang in the Male Chorus, a mentor for the Royal. Ambassadors and Church Bus Driver. He held regional and state offices as President of the Southeast 8th District Baptist Education Association Brotherhood, Vice President of the Louisiana Home and Foreign Mission Baptist State Convention Brotherhood. He was a lifetime Prince Hall Mason having served as the past Worshipful Master of the Pride of Marksville Lodge 89 Free and Accepted Masons. He was also, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Clarence was on the board of the Avoyelles Parish Teachers Credit Union and the board of Marksville Housing Authority, serving as chairman for several years. He was preceded in death by his parent. stepmother: Stella Jones, two sisters: Mildred Coleman and Ethel Mae Dozier one brother: Walter Jones, Jr. two step. sisters: Joann Batiste and Emma Lou Smith and two stepbrothers: Willis Smith and John L. Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of 58 years: Priscilla Gilbert Jones one son: Kenneth Wayne Jones of Marksville. Louisiana one daughter: Sheila JonesLilley and soninlaw Myron Lilley one grandson: Quinton Lilley two granddaughters: Noelle and Danielle Lilley all of San Bernardino, California one very close sisterinlaw: Olivia Hodge of Pontiac, Michigan two godsons: Donald Homes and Cordell E. Guillory a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and scores of former students that he taught over the years.
