Funeral service for Delories Mae Wilson of Simmesport will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 420 Lincoln St. Simmesport, LA with Rev. Chris I. Augustine, Sr. officiating & Rev. Henry Wright, Hosting Pastor. Burial will follow at Greater New Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Simmesport. Visitation will begin at 9:00am until 11:00am on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Simmesport.
Delories left her earthly home to enter her heavenly home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 3, 2023. Sister Delories Mae Wilson, “Dee” as she was affectionately called by family and close friends, was born on February 18, 1948, to the late Ida B. Harris & the late Leon Wilson, Sr. She confessed Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at an early age in Fort Hood, TX by Chaplain Jack R. Milligan. Sister Delories served as an usher at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church and as worshippers entered, they saw her smiling face. She served faithfully as an usher until her health began to fail.
Sister Delories received her elementary education in West Feliciana Parish. She later moved to Simmesport, LA, and completed her secondary education at Dunbar High School in 1967. Upon completion of high school, she enrolled at Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Home Economics Education in 1971, a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education in 1980, and continued her educational journey earning thirty additional graduate hours. She worked in the Avoyelles Parish School System for 33 years educating students.
Those left to mourn her departure, yet cherishing her memories: a devoted and loving daughter, Tonenikea (Toni) Wilson; a grandson who was the apple of her eyes, JaCory Perry of Simmesport, LA; a doting brother, Dr. Leon E. Wilson, Sr. (wife Crystal) of Leesville, LA; a nephew whom she helped to rear, Deldridge T. Berry, Sr. of Waldorf, MD; a Stepmother Nancy Wilson; two sisters: Belinda McClain and Stephanie Wilson all of Baton Rouge, LA; one brother, Leon Wilson, Jr. of Wakefield, LA; four aunts: Hattie McGuinn, Gladys Payne, Dorothy Bailey, and aunt/Godmother Mary L. Brown; two Godsons: Michael Clark and Leon E. Wilson, Jr. (Chico), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers: LaDarren Alexander, Lionel Gilbert, Jr., Roy Lee Alexander, Oscar L. McClain, Jarrod Brown, Gary Wilson, La Vonachec Gilbert, & Jamal Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be JaCory J. Perry, Deldridge T. Berry, Sr., Brandon Draper, George D. Brown, Lionel Gilbert, Sr., Myron K. Brown, Leon Wilson, Jr., Robert Brown, & Dr. Leon E. Wilson, Sr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida B. Harris and Leon Wilson, Sr.; stepfather, Willie C. Harris, Jr.; one sister, Claudette Wilson-Ogbebor; one brother, Willie C. Harris III; and one nephew, Floyd Berry, Jr.
God saw the road was getting rough, the hills hard to climb. He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered “Peace Be Thine.” The weary hours, the days of pain, the sleepless nights are past; the ever patient worn out frame has found sweet rest at last.
