Franklin B. Ortego, formerly of Plaucheville, died at his home in Baton Rouge, surrounded by his family, on May 31, 2010 at 2:10 p.m. He was 76, born November 26, 1933, the son of the late Elgy and Louise Moreau Ortego.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Neyland Ortego a daughter, Cheryl Ortego England of Baton Rouge and a son, Chris David Ortego of Breaux Bridge.
He is also survived by a soninlaw, D. Skip Clark, a daughterinlaw, Christine M. Ortego, three grandchildren, Rachel Orillion, Destin Ortego and Alexis Ortego three sisters, Marjorie Gullett of Cottonport, Olean Celestin and Theresa Ortego both of Metairie.
Franklin retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development in 1986. His favorite pastime was making memories with his family and friends. He loved people and wherever he went, he never met a stranger. Storytelling and a great sense of humor made him a real entertainer in his circle of family and friends. His hobbies included hunting, repairing and building things in his shop and playing tunes on one of his many harmonicas. He was a truly unique and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, who will be dearly missed.
Pallbearers are Destin Ortego, Phillip Ortego, Tony Williams, Kenneth Saucier, Lonnie Fruge, Scott Fruge and Brad Fruge Crossbearer is Alexis Ortego.
Visitation is at Escude Funeral Home in Cottonport from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 and from 9:00am Wednesday, June 2, 2010 until departing for funeral mass which will take place at 1:00pm in Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Plaucheville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
