Funeral Mass for Gerard J. Sampson, Sr. of Mansura will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura with Fr. Irion St. Romain officiating. Interment will be held on a future date at St. Paul Cemetery.
Gerard Joseph Sampson, Sr., age 85 of Mansura, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 in Alexandria.
Gerard was born on April 11, 1937, to Martin & Clara Sampson of Mansura, Louisiana.
Gerard served in the U.S. Army for several years. After serving his enlistment in the U.S. Army, he served in the U.S. National Guard and worked in law enforcement until medically retiring from both. Thereafter, he became an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Gerard met his beautiful bride, Earline, of Cottonport, Louisiana. They united in holy matrimony at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Mansura, Louisiana, on July 1, 1961. Together, they had six children and raised them to always put God first in their lives. Gerard and Earline would have celebrated 61 years of marriage this July.
Gerard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a kind, loving man, who always welcomed everyone with open arms into his home. His happiest moments were spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His favorite pastime was watching Wheel of Fortune and basketball games with his wife.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Earline Sampson of Mansura; daughters, Cynthia “Pam” Sampson of Moreauville, Stephanie (Andrew) Murray of New Braunfels, TX; Tiffany James of New Orleans; sons, Gerard (Nina) Sampson, Jr. of New Braunfels, TX, Christopher (Mindy) Sampson of Chandler, AZ, Charles (Shirelle) Sampson of Cibolo, TX, Troy James of Atlanta, GA, Terrell James of Mansura, and Jermaine Patterson of Marksville; sisters, Mary Sampson of Mansura, Connie Marie Murray of Mansura, Linda Dobbins of Evergreen; brothers, John Sampson of Evergreen, Landry Sampson of Marksville, Donald Dobbins of Baton Rouge, and Jeff Dobbins of Evergreen. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; godchildren: Paul Murray of Gonzalez, LA, Gloria Goodson of Houston, TX, Sharon Sampson of Woodworth, LA, & Bridgette Augustine of Marksville, LA; two loving aunts, Eunice Washington of Baltimore, MD, and Theresa Johnson of Mansura, LA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Sampson & Claire Augustine Sampson; son, Israel Sampson; sisters, Catherine Pierre, Marjorie Alexander, and Carolyn James; brother, Alex Joseph Sampson.
Visitation will begin at 8:00am until 10:00am on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura.
