Funeral services for Gerard Tassin a WWII veteran of Mansura will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 beginning at 11am at the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura with Fr. Irion St. Romain officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 beginning at 5pm until 9pm at the Escud Funeral Home in Mansura and will continue the following morning at 9am until the time of service. Entombment and military honors will be held at the St. Paul Mausoleum in Mansura. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Escud Funeral Home.
Gerard Tassin, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2014. He proudly served as Master Sargent in the U.S. Army for 8 years in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea, Phillipines, and Japan where he met his wife of 65 years. His service earned the AsiaticPacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star. As owner of Oil Gas Equipment Sales, he retired in 1994 at age 72. He was a devout Catholic and Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and member of the American Legion Post 320. He was an avid backyard gardener and staunch fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sam Lena Juneau Tassin his sisters: Geraldine James twin, Dorothy McDonald, Maude Armand, and Joann Ducote.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, and his five children: Arnold Julie of Fairhope, AL, Cathy Ducote Houston of Hessmer, Brenda Wood Ben of Mansura, Troy Mona of Prairieville, and James Pam of Mansura. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Brian James, Heather Tassin, Chase Ducote, Blake Ducote, Natalie Deschapelles, Stephen Tassin, Sarah Tassin, Payton Tassin and Rosie Tassin and his two greatgrandchildren: Aaron Ducote and Aubree Ducote.
