James Barr

Funeral services for James Andrew Barr of Mandeville, Louisiana will take place at First Baptist Church of Simmesport on Saturday, January 21, 2012, beginning at 2:00 pm with Pastor Gilbert Barr officiating. Visitations will be held at Escud Funeral Home on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 5pm 9pm. Burial services will commence at the Masonic Cemetery.
James A. Jimmy Barr, age 57, passed away at Ochsner Hospital on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. He earned his diploma from Simmesport High School. Graduating Semi Cum Lottie from Belhaven University, he received a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. James also earned a Master Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University graduating Semi Cum Lottie.
In 2011, he retired with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as New Orleans District Chief of Contracting. During his years of service with the Corps, Jim volunteered to serve a fourmonth TDY assignment to Kabul, Afghanistan. On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed into South Louisiana and Mississippi. Jim and his staff of contracting professionals sought out able partners in industry, secured valuable supplies and equipment, and led a response to save a city of over 400,000 residents.
James was an active member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Covington, LA. He was also a member of Atchafalaya Lodge 163 F AM in Simmesport, La.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother Joseph and Dorothy Barr of Simmesport, LA. His brother Louis Barr, nephew Christopher M. Barr, niece Geralyn Barr Desoto.
He is survived by his wife Maureen Barr, children, Kathleen and Justin Conrad of Redwood, MS, Andrew Barr and fianc Adelaide Hair of Baton Rouge, grandson Justin Conrad, Jr., siblings Gilbert Barr Anna Ree of Simmesport, Donald Barr Sally of Angola, Joseph Barr, Jr. Donna Simmesport, John Barr Melanie of Hamburg, Kenneth Allen Barr of Jonesville, Adrin Becky White Sonny of Jonesville.
Pallbearers for the service will include: Jeffery Gough, Michael Guines, Corey Jeffers, David Barr, Joey Barr, and Jamie Barr.
