Services for Mr. James Joseph Bordelon will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008 in St. Peter Catholic Church in Bordelonville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Bordelon, age 69, died September 25, 2008 at his residence in Bordelonville. He graduated from Bordelonville High School in 1957, graduated from LSU with a B.S. degree in Mathematics and Science Education in 1960 and with a Masters of Natural Science and 30 additional graduate hours in Physics from LSU in 1966. He taught at Bordelonville High School from 1960 1972. From 1972-1974 he served as the Math Resource Teacher for the Federal Programs. In 1974 he was appointed principal of Bordelonville High School and served in that capacity until 1988 when the school was closed due to court ordered desegregation. In 1988 he was reassigned as principal in Simmesport at Riverside Elementary School until March, 1991.In March 1991 he was named superintendant of Avoyelles Parish Schools and served in that capacity until his retirement, July 1, 1994 He was preceded in death by his father, Charles J. Bordelon, Jr., mother Addie L. Bordelon and a sister, Cheryl B. Coco. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bordelon of Bordelonville; daughter, Jamie B. Roy and husband Marion Peter Roy, Jr. of New Orleans; daughter, Jill M. Bordelon of Ruston and son Jody J. Bordelon of Alexandria and 6 grandchildren. A wake will be held Saturday, September 27, 2008 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Bordelonville beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. He will be greatly missed by his family, as a community activist, he will be missed by the entire community. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Peters Knights of Columbus.
