Graveside service & military honors for James Sampson, age 89 of Marksville, will begin at 10am on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at St. John Community Baptist Cemetery in Marksville.

On June 25, 2019, Deacon Sampson left his earthly home for his eternal heavenly home.  He James Sampson was born on March 21, 1930 to the late Clifton Sampson and Alice Thomas Sampson in Mansura, LA.   He was the third of five siblings.  James graduated from Mary Bethune High School in Marksville, LA.  He began his career in the military in 1948, where served in the United States Army.  He worked as a cook and traveled the world. During his military career, he fought in the Korean War and God blessed him to return home safely.  He retired from the army in 1969 and settled in Killeen, Texas.  He worked at Wilson Plastic in Temple, TX until he retired from there. He enjoyed driving his motorcycle to work and also loved his Volkswagen and vintage van.

In 1955, he was joined in marriage to Isa Lillian Alcorn.  They were married 27 years and together had 5 children: Jacqueline Gail, Corliss Shane, Gregory James, Vincent Ray, and Christopher Stephen.  He was a hard-worker and good provider.  He was also a loving father and devoted husband.  Mr. James Sampson also cared for his parents as they got older and helped to care for his mother-in-law, Isa Bailey Alcorn in their home until she passed.

In 1983, James Sampson was joined in marriage to Adele Marie Williams of Marksville, LA.  They had a beautiful home in Marksville, LA where her children and grandchildren had many happy memories.  They remained happily married until her passing in 2005.

Deacon James Sampson was a faithful member of St. John Community Baptist church in Marksville, LA for over 30 years.  He loved His Pastor, Pastor Guillory and he loved working with the Deacon Ministry along with his older brother, Trustee Anatole Sampson.  He served there until he got sick and moved to Houston, TX where his youngest son, Christopher Sampson and his wife, Nicole saw to his continued medical treatment and extended care.  He will be sorely missed, but gratefully rejoiced.

Those left to cherish his memory are his               five children: Jacqueline Gail Sampson of Houston, TX, Corliss Lindwie Sampson of Queens, NY, Gregory James Sampson, US NAVY in  Korea, Vincent Sampson on Active duty in the United States Army in Kansas, Christopher Stephen Sampson of Houston, TX (Nicole Sampson, wife); five grandchildren: Crystal, Dustin, and Tyron Sampson(children of Gregory and Tina) and Nevaeh and Elijah Sampson children of Christopher and Nicole; three brothers, Russell Sampson, Albert Sampson, and Donald Sampson all of Los Angeles, California, step-children: Robin Martin, Ramona Jacobs, Erwin and Derwin Martin and Al Martin, a host of nieces and nephews,  grandchildren of Adele and James Sampson including Brandie,  Idele, Tab, Jovoun, Kayla, as well as numerous extended relatives and friends.

Hewas preceded in death by his wife, Adele Sampson; the mother of his children, Isa L. Sampson; his parents, Clifton & Alice Sampson; sister, Marion Sampson; brother, Anatole Sampson; and step-children, Crane Martin & Monica Desselle.

Visitation will begin at 8am until 9:45am on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura.
