Funeral services for Hilary Joseph Joe Johnson of Moreauville will take place at the Little Zion Baptist Church of Longbridge on Saturday, June 29, 2013, beginning at 11:00am. Visitation will also be held that morning, from 9:00am to 11:00am. Burial services will commence at the Little Zion Cemetery.
Hilary Joseph Joe Johnson was born on April 6, 1928, to the late Hilary and Mary Lockwood Johnson in Longbridge, Louisiana. He departed this life on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the age of 85.
He was baptized at an early age by the late Reverend W. L. Blackman at Little Zion Baptist Church in Longbridge, Louisiana, where he served as a faithful and diligent church member. He took a lot of pride as the church caretaker for many years. He also served as a member under the leadership of the late Reverend P. N. Blackman and the current Pastor Reverend Vernon Simon until his health began to decline. He was a diligent and devoted employee of Sears with 37 years of service until his retirement.
On October 22, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mae Pearl Tyler and to this union six children were born. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 65 years, four daughters: Patricia Celestine and Betty Lester Williams of Longbridge, LA Rose Johnson, Lafayette, LA Carolyn Curtis Craft of Baker, LA and three sons John Johnson, Baton Rouge, LA Larry Ruby Johnson, Zachary, LA Joseph Dorothy Williams, Houston, Texas and a sisterinlaw, Georgie Williams 11 grandchildren, 18 greatgrandchildren, and 10 greatgreat grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hilary Johnson, mother, Mary Lockwood Johnson, four sisters: Delphy Joshua, Rose Mary Johnson, Louella Williams, and Cecilia Joshua one brother, Cornelius Johnson, and a son, Robert Williams.
