Born June 18, 1922, died peacefully after a full life at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday January 23, 2007 at Flannery Oaks Guest House in Baton Rouge, La. He was 84 and a native of Plaucheville, La. and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, serving on the USS Hamilton. Hubert owned and operated the Jitney Jungle super market and later Huberts grocery store for many years with his wife Telsie. After retiring in 1972 he and Telsie moved to Baton Rouge. Mr. Rabalais was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Woodmen of the World and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Telsie Guillory Rabalais, daughters, Kathleen Rabalais, Darlene Rabalais and his parents, Ludger and Eva Rabalais. Survivors include 4 sons Eddie and wife Sherry Rabalais of Pineville, Wayne and wife Cynthia Rabalais, John and wife Sharon Rabalais, and Darrell and wife Linda Rabalais all of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Susan and husband Mike Harris of Baton Rouge; three brothers, Elmo Rabalais, Lawrence Rabalais and Hillman Rabalais all of Moreauville and one sister, Melba Spedale of Baton Rouge, 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Escude Funeral Home in Cottonport, LA where visitation will take place on Friday January 26, 2007 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Plaucheville. Pallbearers to be, Grant Rabalais, Adam Rabalais, Larry Rabalais, Rocky Riche, Toby Rabalais and Mark Edward Rabalais; Honorary Pallbearers Michael Harris and fellow crew members of the USS Hamilton. The family wishes to thank the staff of Flannery Oaks Guest House for their endless hours of caring for our dad.
