Funeral Mass for Kenneth Maillet of Bordelonville will take place at the St. Peter Catholic Church of Bordelonville on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024 beginning at 11:30am with Fr. Paul Kunnumpuram officiating with Fr. Louis Sklar assisting. Burial will take place at the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery on a later date.
Kenneth Maillet, age 77, a beloved husband, educator, and community leader passed away at the Lafayette General Hospital on Friday, May 10th, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Kenneth's passion for learning led him to pursue higher education at both LSU and McNeese State University, where he earned a degree in accounting. He furthered his academic achievements by obtaining certification in Education, ultimately becoming a respected and dedicated teacher. Throughout his career, Kenneth positively impacted the lives of countless students, instilling in them a love for learning and growth.
Not only was Kenneth a dedicated educator, but he was also deeply involved in his community. As the director of education at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Kenneth touched the lives of many through his faith and service. His commitment to his community extended to his involvement as an Eagle Scout, a role model for countless young individuals.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Kenneth was a talented athlete. He excelled as a basketball and track coach, and his skill and dedication on the court earned him a spot on the All State Basketball team. Kenneth's passion for sports and coaching inspired those around him to strive for excellence and teamwork.
Kenneth's legacy of kindness, dedication, and service will forever be remembered by his wife of 54 years, Joy Maillet; children, Rhett Jonas Maillet (Amber), Brooke Aaron Maillet, and Kip Michael Maillet; his sister, Pamela Hymel (Richard); grandchildren, Alexis Johnson and Blaize Maillet; great-grandchildren, Bella Rose Glaviano and Liliana Johnson. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Tresha Maillet Benischeck, Susan Maillet, Janeé Hymel, Travis Guillory, Kelly Tourere, and Troy Maillet; sisters-in-law, Nancy Barrere Maillet and Peggy Underwood Guillory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack & Mary Ola Coco Maillet; brothers, Daniel Maillet and Chris Maillet; sister-in-law, Virginia Maillet; brother-in-law, Ned Guillory; father & mother-in-law, Lee & Eudice Guillory; and his nephew, Trent Maillet.
Visitation will begin on Monday, May 13th, 2024 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the St. Peter Catholic Church Hall. The holy rosary will be recited that evening at 7:00pm and visitation will resume Tuesday morning at 8:00am at the church hall.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are: Kelly Tourere, Namon Harris, Richard Hymel, Travis Guillory, Keith Benischeck, Blaize Maillet, and the cross bearer; Alexis Johnson. The honorary pallbearers the Bayou Des Glaises Knights of Columbus and the members of the Bordelonville Class of 1965.
Although Kenneth has departed from this earthly realm, his presence will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace, his memory forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
