Kirby Paul Neck, Sr., 93 of Mansura and a resident of Oakmont Estate, died Monday, April 28, 2008 at Rapides General Hospital,Alexandria. He is survived by his five children, Kirby Paul Neck, Jr. and wife, Kathleen of Richmond, Texas, Janice Joy Miller and husband, David of Pineville, Merrill Claire Bordelon and husband, Ralph of Pensacola, Florida, Nancy Kay Dauzat and husband, Malcolm of Marksville, Pamela Joan Jackson and husband, Robert of Mandeville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mabel Anne Bordelon Neck; parents Ulysses and Volcie Neck of Cocoville; siblings, Albert Neck, Achilles Neck, Volice Neck and Rita St. Romain. He was a graduate of Marksville High School Class of 1934. He then attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Education in 1940. He was hired as Assistant Rural Rehabilitation Supervisor in Ville Platte in 1940-41. He then took a position at Mansura High School as Vocational Agriculture Teacher. He began teaching in 1941 and retired in May 1973. At the onset of his employment as a teacher, his training in veterinary services enabled him to assist area residents in treating livestock in the absence of a licensed veterinarian. He was also instrumental in the farming community, addressing concerns with area farmers involving insect control, fertilization and propagation. He maintained the Meat Locker at Mansura High School while employed there as a teacher; he assisted in management of the FFA Camp at Old River and joined with the other Ag Teachers running the Parish Fair hamburger booth for many years. He volunteered tireless hours of his time to his church and community for over 50 years, helping with the church fair and Cochon de Lait. He was a devoted husband to Mabel, loving father to their five children, and wonderful grandfather to their fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He lived a full, blessed life, touched many lives and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services are under the direction of Escude' Funeral Home in Mansura where the family will begin receiving friends from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. There will be a Catholic Wake Service at 7:15 that evening. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on the day of the funeral. Funeral services will be at St. Paul Catholic Church in Mansura at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Chris Miller, Clint Miller, Jeremy Bordelon, Kendall Neck, Dustin Dauzat, Chase Jackson, Brian Jackson and Garrett Jackson with Dalton Miller as cross bearer.
