Laura Chenevert

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7. On Wednesday May 15, 2013, Laura Katherine Kay Fort Chenevert, age 53, ended her two year battle with melanoma. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through two long years of grueling cancer treatments. Yet even throughout her own struggle with Cancer, she still touched and inspired others.
She was born on November 24, 1959 and is survived by her husband, Peter Chenevert, both parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Fort. One brother, Johnny Fort, one niece, Nikki Fort, one greatniece, Ali Fort, two daughters Nikki Lemoine and Lauren Abadie, along with four grandchildren Bryce, Berkley, Brohk, and Karter Jude, also survive her.
Known for her ease in frequent conversation, Kay never met a stranger. Even throughout her treatments, she possessed a contagious smile and an inspiring outlook on life. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling and love for all those around her, will never be forgotten.
She is a graduate of LSU and went on to become a beloved teacher. She then went on to become a familiar and loving face at the Paragon Casino Hotel.
Visitation will be as follows: May 16, 2013 from 5:00pm9:00pm at Escud Funeral Home in Cottonport. On May 17, 2013 the visitation will continue at Escud Funeral Home in Cottonport at 9:00am. St. Marys Catholic Church in Cottonport will hold the funeral service at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville.
