Leo, a lifelong resident of Avoyelles Parish, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 2:54 P.M. at the age of 80 at Valley View Health Care Facility in Marksville, Louisiana. Leo was a parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Marksville, Louisiana for most of his life until he joined St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Hessmer, LA. He served in the United States Army for two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He graduated from Southern University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. Leo began his career as a dedicated educator for several years. He then enjoyed many years as Personnel Manager at Joan of Arc/Pillsbury/Allen Canning Company. He retired as the Executive Director at Avoyelles Progress Action Committee, a non-profit government agency. After retirement, he enjoyed his time by traveling with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also spent countless hours enjoying movies, watching Wheel of Fortune, football and basketball games and the news from the comfort of his sofa.
Leo loved spending time and cooking for his family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren who he loved with all his heart. He, along with his wife, were lifelong philanthropists for various Catholic charities around the globe.
Leo will be missed by his two dedicated daughters: Trina Annette Rogers-Preston (Richard) and Sherri Lynn Rogers-Hall (Jason). He was blessed to have five beautiful grandchildren who he loved so much: Gabrielle Preston, Matthew Preston, Nora Preston, Mason Hall, and Madison Hall.
Additionally, Leo’s living siblings include: Mary Buckner (George), Catherine Alexander (Vernon), John Rogers (Betty), and Walter Rogers (Bernadette). He has a host of nieces and nephews, who all loved him dearly.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Martha Rogers. Leo was also preceded in death by his siblings: Martha Myrl Rogers, James L. Rogers, Joseph L. Rodgers, Jr., Paul E. Rodgers, Sr., and Floyd L. Rogers. He is now reunited in heaven with his beautiful wife, Dorothy Ann Augustine Rogers.
Active pallbearers include his nephews: Lynn Alexander, Michael Alexander, Dr. Christopher Rogers, Derrick Rogers, Jesse Rogers, and Columbus Smith.
Leo’s children and grandchildren would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the following health care professionals who did a tremendous job in making him comfortable throughout his illness and during his final days:
Finally, Trina and Sherri would like to extend sincere gratitude to their husbands, aunts, uncles, and cousins who supported them during their dad’s final months of life by bringing him to appointments, visiting him, cooking for him, getting his medication, and ensuring that he had everything that he needed and wanted (just to name a few). Your love and dedication will never be forgotten.
