Lucy Turnbull died October 7, 2012 at her daughters home in Abbeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., October 11, 2012 at the St. Marys Assumption Catholic Church, 820 Front St., Cottonport. Interment will follow at St. Marys Assumption Cemetery. The Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Father Jamie Medina Cruz, Pastor of St. Marys Assumption Church.
Lucy Turnbull was born in the town of Cottonport on April 18, 1918. She was the daughter of Mary Virginia Roy Descant and Edovise Descant. Mrs. Turnbull graduated from Cottonport High School and Southwestern Louisiana Institute now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at Warner Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia during World War II and afterwards in the public school system at Fifth Ward, Plaucheville, Evergreen and Cottonport, ending her teaching career at St. Marys Assumption Parochial School. Later in life she became a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and St. Marys Altar Society. She loved her hometown of Cottonport where she was respected as a gifted teacher and affectionately remembered as a gracious and funloving hostess.
Lucy Perret Turnbull is survived by her daughter, Susan Perret DesOrmeaux and her husband Dr. Georges P. DesOrmeaux of Abbeville, and three grandchildren: David Paul DesOrmeaux and his wife Amy Brewer DesOrmeaux of Lafayette, Marie DesOrmeaux Centanni and her husband Justin Centanni of Lafayette, and Julie DesOrmeaux Rosenzweig and her husband Dr. Seth D. Rosenzweig of New Iberia. Mrs. Turnbull is also survived by seven greatgrandchildren: Lucy Descant Centanni Serafina Anne Centanni Anthony Michel Centanni, III Luke Perret Rosenzweig Dennis Stephen Rosenzweig Camille Elise Rosenzweig and Georges Pierre Rosenzweig.
Mrs. Turnbull was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons and her husband of 42 years, Dr. Sterling F. Perret of Patoutville. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Vernice Descant Lemoine and Ruth Evelyn Descant Long and greatgranddaughter, Emerite Belle Rosenzweig.
In 1994 Lucy D. Perret married widower Samuel Parish Turnbull of Tallahassee. They enjoyed seven years together before his death in 2001. She was welcomed into his family with love and respect by his five adult children: Samuel Parish Turnbull, Jr. Joel Turnbull deceased Jane Turnbull Lomasney Mary Katherine Turnbull Berry and John Timothy Turnbull deceased.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Escud Funeral Home, 554 Front St., Cottonport, from 9:00am on Thursday, October 11, 2012 until the time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00am by members of Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
