Mamie Ponthieux Chatelain, 99, passed away on October 17, 2014 at Nottingham Regional Rehab Center in Baton Rouge. She was a native and lifelong resident of Mansura, LA. She is survived by her only son, Jude Ronald Chatelain, Sr., his wife Joan Doucet Chatelain four grandchildren: Renee Chatelain, Jude Chatelain, Jr. and his wife Andi Lamana Chatelain of Baton Rouge, Michael Chatelain and his wife Angie Torres Chatelain of Denham Springs, and Charles Chatelain of Los Angeles, California as well as five greatgrandchildren: Heather Chatelain, Cameron Chatelain, Brandon Chatelain, Michael Chatelain and Joseph Chatelain, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Amet A. Chatelain parents, Arthur and Leonie Dufour Ponthieux two brothers, Ura Ponthieux and his wife Lessie Desselle Ponthieux, Pershing Ponthieux and his wife Polly Boyer Ponthieux.
She was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church and a charter member of the St. Pauls Alter Society in Mansura. She was an active volunteer with the Disabled American Veterans and a past employee of the Council on Aging. She loved gardening and animals, especially her parrot, Doux.
The family is especially grateful to the South Louisiana Hospice Care Team who provided loving care and guidance.
Escude Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pauls Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Pauls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
