Funeral services for Marie Saucier, of Plaucheville, Louisiana will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2015. Visitation will begin at 10:30am at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church of Plaucheville. Mass will follow visitation at 11:30am. Entombment will be held at the Mater Dolorosa Mausoleum.
Marie Saucier, passed away at the age of 91 on January 3, 2015 at the Avoyelles Manor Nursing Home in Dupont, La.
Momma. MawMaw Chicken had a devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggles and ultimately gave her peace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie B. Saucier Sr. and Loretta Saucier, her husband of 72 years, Lester A. Saucier, Sr. and by her granddaughter, Donna Saucier Ferchak. She is survived by her son, Lester A. Saucier, Jr. (Marialeice Jeffcote) of Orange, Tx; daughter, Alice Marie Duncan (Henry) of Mississippi; sisters Barbara Saucier Ducote, Nitsie Saucier Juneau, Shirley Saucier Wilson, and brother Willie B. Saucier, Jr. She is survived by 11 grandchildren: Dana Dupuis (John E. Sr.) of Breaux Bridge, La., Jade Saucier (Karen) of Bridge City, Tx, Tammy Saucier of Breaux Bridge, La., Erron Saucier (Erika) of Beaumont, Tx., Marc Saucier of Austin, Tx., Dominic Colletti of Bridge City, Tx., Adrienne Platt (Joseph) of New Braunfels, Tx., Kevin Saucier of Columbia, La., H.B. Duncan, Daniel Duncan, and Alicia Duncan; eighteen great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jade Saucier, Karen Saucier, Dana Dupuis, Tammy Saucier, Erron Saucier, Marc Saucier, Dominic Colletti, and Adrienne Platt. Honorary pallbearers will be J.E. Dupuis Sr., Erika Saucier, Joseph Platt, Kevin Saucier, Bryce Saucier, Mitch Saucier, Alexandra Saucier, Ashlyn Ewest, and Enzo Otis Platt.
She married Lester Saucier, Sr. on January 26, 1940 and gave birth to their son in January 1942 at the beginning of World War I. When he returned from the war they settled in Cottonport, La. Having been raised on a farm she was more than familiar with the outdoors and had a love for gardening and raising animals. She raised chickens, quails, and hogs just to mention a few, and then sold them from her home business along with the vegetables and fruits she had raised. She was a professional seamstress and an expert in the art of quilting. Her quilts have been bought by people from all walks of life and from all over the United States. Her hobbies included fishing, hunting, traveling, and bowling. She won many awards at tournaments she entered. Having a very competitive nature, one of her passions was playing the game of Bourre' with her friends and family. She enjoyed hosting parties, gatherings for family and friends, and many a cochon de lait at their home. She was baptized at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church on 8/11/1923 where she and Lester were lifelong members and she was an active member of the Altar Society.
