Maryland Batiste

Funeral services for Maryland "Jukebox" Batiste resident of Baton Rouge formerly of Lettsworth will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 beginning at 11am at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura. Visitation will begin on Friday, July 8, 2016 beginning at 5pm until 10pm at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura and will resume Saturday morning at 8am until the time of service. Burial will take place at the St. Matthew's Baptist Cemetery in Lettsworth. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Escude Funeral Home.
Maryland Batiste, age 47, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Batiste, Sr.; sister, Jane Ruth Pate; brothers, Ervin Batiste, Sr. and Leburn Batiste.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Luella Pate Batiste of Baton Rouge; sisters, Receiver Williams of Simmsport, Rosetta Ivory of Mansura, Ida Mae Batiste, Vera Batiste, and Janetta Isah all of Baton Rouge; brothers, Leon Ivory of Mansura, Edward Batiste, Jr. of Spokane, WA, and Vernon Lee Batiste of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jukebox is a well-known staple in Baton Rouge around Highland Coffees, Louie's Café, & Barcadia especially. His compassionate and friendly personality has touched many lives. The Legacy Magazine, run by LSU students, featured him in a warm felt article because of his impact on people. He was a regular at the coffee shop for 20 years and became a regular in the hearts of many. Jukebox was also well-known for his love of music. He would often be seen listening, singing, and dancing to some of his favorite artist such as Michael Jackson, Motown, & The Temptations.
