Services for Merlin Joseph Dupont of Simmesport will be at 10 a.m. on August 17, 2009 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Simmesport with Fr. James Nellikumnel officiating. Burial will be in Christ the King Mausoleum in Simmesport under the direction of Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport. Merlin Joseph Dupont, 78, died in his home in Simmesport, August 14, 2009. Mr. Dupont proudly served in the U.S. Army for 22 years. He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a recipient of a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal during the Vietnam War. Following his military service he retired from the Louisiana Department of Corrections. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lula Belle Dupont of Simmesport; four sons, Perry Dupont of Simmesort, Bruce Dupont of Pollock, Wayne Dupont of Belledeau, and Barry Dupont of Plaucheville; daughter, Catherine Lemoine of Belledeau; three brothers, Adolph Bee Dupont Jr. of Cottonport, Ray Dupont of Simmesport and Neuman Dupont of Littleton, Colorado; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lonnie James Dupoint and Barry Paul Dupont; two brothers, Sam Dupont and Richard Dupont; two sisters, Carrie Dupont and Vergi Dupont; father, Adolph Dupont, Sr. and mother, Marie Dupont. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport and resume the following day at 8 a.m. A Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. August 16, 2009. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Moreau, Richard Dupoint, Merlin Charles Dupont, Michael Dupont, Shaun Newson, Brandon Newson. Honorary pallbearers will be Chase Dupont and Andrew Dupont.
