Funeral Mass for Michael “Mike” Brinkley, of Simmesport, will take place at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Simmesport beginning at 11:00 am on Friday, May 24, 2024, with Father Kurian Zachariah and Father Brian Seiler officiating. Burial will follow at Christ the King Mausoleum.
Mike Brinkley, age 84, passed away at the Bayou Chateau Nursing Home in Simmesport. He was a school teacher, coach, and driver's ed teacher in Moreauville, Bordelonville, and retired from teaching in Simmesport. He went on to continue teaching driver's ed for the state. Mike was also an all-conference tennis and basketball player at Southeastern University. Mike, affectionately known as Dadee to his family, enjoyed cooking for all his kids and grandkids nearly every holiday. His pork chops were “world famous” ( if you asked his grandkids). He also enjoyed fishing and running his dogs. He would swear his old smoky Joe crankbait was the secret to catching fish and he still is probably the only person who ever thought Barfish tasted better than white perch. Dadee was one of the most generous people you could ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back. It would most likely be a white T-shirt, but that’s only because he was just as humble and simple as he was generous.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Nina (Plauche) Brinkley of Simmesport; children, Sharon Marie Lemoine (Dwayne) of Marksville, Dana Ann Smith (Richard) of Pineville, Michael Jude Brinkley, Jr. (Angela) of Flora, MS, Sandy Lynn Piland of Alexandria, and Christy Elizabeth Shriver of Pineville; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Hazel (Riche) Brinkley; and a sister Laura Ann Brinkley.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 8:30 am until 10:45 am with a rosary to be recited at 10:00 am in Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport.
Pallbearers will be Randy Lemoine, Cory Lemoine, Wes Coleman, Zach Smith, Jay Reed Piland, and Matthew Piland; honorary pallbearer, Keith Lacombe; cross bearers, Brayden Byers and Carter Byers.
