Renate was a refugee as a child when she fled the war by train with her mother and siblings, later to be reunited with her father. Renate came to the US on the USS America when she was 16 years old as an au pair in New York. Renate took a train to New Orleans with the family and later moved out, to live in the Louise Home Convent in New Orleans. Renate attended Warren Easton High School, in New Orleans at night and also earned her certificate from IBM Business College on Barrone St. in New Orleans. After moving in with her friend Sharron Bordelon's family she met Vincent Dubroc, who introduced Renate to his brother and her husband-to-be, Dudley Dubroc. She was married to Dudley Dubroc on August 6, 1960 at St. Peter's Church in Bordelonville. Renate traveled and resided around the world due to Dudley's offshore work with her 4 children in tow; living in Bad Schwartau, Germany; New York; New Orleans, LA; Bordelonville, LA; Beirut, Lebanon; Mount Sinai, Singapore; Bahrain; Sacramento, CA; Longside, Scotland; Hamburg, LA. Renate worked for A&G Cafeteria on Canal St; modeled and worked in the office for Kaufman's on Dryades St. in New Orleans, worked at Weiss & Goldring in Alexandria, LA and Garran's Clothing factory in Simmesport and was a homemaker and managed the farm business. Dudley and Renate purchased their home and farm land in Hamburg, La while living in Scotland and moved to the US to stay in 1977. She was a wonderful Cajun-German cook and loved flowers, birds (particularly hummingbirds) and music. You could always catch her blasting music (from German folk, to Tchaikovski to Pink Floyd) in her car or living room and singing as loudly and dancing as freely as possible. She also enjoyed having conversations in German with her sister, Inge where they shared many days and late nights of loud laughter.
