Richard Mitchel

Funeral services for Richard Mitchel from Mansura will take place at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Hessmer on Friday, November 2, 2018 beginning at 1:00pm with Fr. Edwin Rodriquez-Hernandez officiating. Visitation will be held at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 9 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at a later date. Funeral arrangement are under the direction of Escude Funeral Home.

Richard "Dickie" Mitchel, age 68, was born on January 18, 1950 in Marksville. Dickie passed away at his home on the banks of Lake Pearl early Sunday, October 28, 2018.

He was a loving husband, brother, uncle and godfather. He was an avid duck and squirrel hunter and crawfisherman and loved to garden. He was a lifelong member of Lake Pearl Hunting Club having served as a board member for many years, and currently serving as secretary/treasurer. He also loved to sell sweet potatoes and meeting the customers for his brother Michael. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Corrections with 20 years of service as a security officer.

He is preceded in death by infant daughter, Brianne Mitchel; his parents, Roland and Patricia Mitchel; his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Anna Michel; and maternal grandparents, Cullen and Jeanette Dupuy.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joanne Mitchel; sisters, Deborah (Bruce) Courville and Carol (Jay) Helminger; brother, Michael (Deborah) Mitchel. He is also survived by his nieces, Ashley (Greg) Coco, Erica (Milton) Ducote and Rachel Helminger; nephews, Bryan and fiancé Amanda Guillory, and Jarred Mitchel; great nieces, Jeanette, Halsey, and Millie Coco, Kenzi Ducote, and Jaylee Mitchel; great nephews, Landon Ducote and Drake Mitchel.

Lectors will be Ashley Coco and Rachel Helminger. Altar servers will be Jeanette and Halsey Cocand Kenzi Ducote. Pallbearers will be Jay Helminger, Bruce Courville, Bryan Mitchel, Jarred Mitchel, Wayne Michel and James Dauzat. Honorary pallbearer will be Tim Lemoine and Cindy Dupuy. Crossbearers will be Jaylee Mitchel, Drake Mitchel, Landon Ducote, and Millie Coco.
