Funeral services for Roy Andrews Gauthier of Cottonport will be held on Tuesday, January 20th, 2015, beginning at 11am at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Cottonport with Father Jose Sanchez-Robles officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19th. 2015 beginning at 4pm until 9pm and will resume the following morning at 8am at Escude Funeral Home of Cottonport. A rosary will be held at 7pm on Monday. Internment will be held in St. Mary's No. 2 Cemetery in Cottonport.
Roy Andrews Gauthier, age 91, passed away at his home in Cottonport on Saturday, January 17, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Gauthier; his infant son, John Gauthier; son, Paul Gauthier; numerous brothers & sisters, his parents, Alfred & Benita Gauthier.
Survivors include daughter, Gail Valentour of Lafayette; two sons, Steven Gauthier of Elton and Douglas Gauthier of Cottonport. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Kerri Valentour Richardson and Katie Valentour both of Lafayette, Chad Gauthier of Cottonport, John Gauthier of Dupont, Michael Gauthier of Lafayette and Daniel Gauthier of Baton Rouge; and four great grandchildren: Jacob of Cottonport, Kade Gauthier of Dupont, Lexie and Landon Richardson both of Lafayette; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Roy Gauthier was co-owner / operator of Roy's Grocery in Cottonport for 55 years along with his wife, Cora. Mr. Roy received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1945 after 3 years of service of which included a year of service in World War II at Normandy, France. Roy will be remembered for his ongoing contributions to the community of Cottonport through his generous business and personal donations to the church and school. In 1994, Roy received the Citizen of the Year Award for his unending devotion to helping those in need. Roy also enjoyed his woodworking and tending to his vegetable garden and sharing the yields.
The family extends sincere / heartfelt gratitude to his niece, Carolyn Vidrine for her loving care of Mr. Roy Gauthier through his final years.
