Funeral services for Stewart Joseph Aymond, TeeBrown of Plaucheville will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 beginning at 12pm at the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church with Fr. Keith Ishmael presiding. Visitation will be held at the Escud Funeral Home in Cottonport on Monday, September 8, 2014 beginning at 5pm until 9pm and will resume the following morning at 9am until 11:30am. Burial military honors will be held at the Mater Dolorosa Mausoleum in Plaucheville arrangements are under the direction of Escud Funeral Home.
Stewart Joseph Aymond, age 91, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 in Baton Rouge. After graduating from Plaucheville High School in 1942, Stewart proudly served in the United States Navy in WWII aboard the USS Hector in the Marshall Islands for 4 years as a Coxswain. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as family and friends will attest. Following his military service, Stewart worked for Southern Pacific Railroad in Houston for 15 years. Subsequently, the family returned to Louisiana where he worked as the Service Manager for Johnson Chevrolet in Bunkie until his retirement. Stewart was a man of honesty, integrity, and purpose which he lived out every day.
He was a lifetime member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus council 2142 serving as a 4th degree Knight as well as a lector for Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. Stewart proudly served as Mayor of the Village of Plaucheville from 19801992 and as an alderman from 19601964, 19701974, and 20002004. He was a member of the Plaucheville Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion. His love for Plaucheville was always in his actions and service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amable Ida Neyland Aymond brother, Stephen Robert Aymond sisters, Anna Mae Aymond Lemoine and Ina Aymond Plauche.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Lemoine Aymond, four children, Wayne Aymond wife Sandra Guillory Aymond, Cynthia Aymond Rabalais husband Wayne Rabalais, Brenda Aymond Gauthier husband Paul Brent Gauthier, all of Baton Rouge, and Stephen Aymond of Youngsville, La. Ten grandchildren: Stephanie Aymond, Erin Aymond Colborn and Michael Aymond, Marsha Rabalais Shirey, Kimberly Rabalais Leblanc, and Adam Rabalais Randy Aymond: Amy Gauthier Huynh, Andrew Gauthier, and Sarah Gauthier and eleven greatgrandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Our House of Respite and Pinnacle Hospice for their care compassion.
