A celebration of the life of Sybil Rabalais Prevot will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 11 am in St. Pauls Catholic Church, Mansura. Entombment will follow at St. Pauls Cemetery. A wake will be held Tuesday, May 19, from 5 to 9 pm at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura. Visitation will resume at 8am Wednesday until time of service. Mrs. Prevot, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, May 18 at Valley View Health Care Facility in Marksville, surrounded by her loved ones. Mama or Nanny, as she was known to her family, was the mother of eight children and three stepdaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents Forrest Rabalais and Corrine Couvillion, her husband Buvens Louis Prevot and four children: Connie Zimmer, William Toups, Maxie Cortez, and Buvens Boo Boo Prevot, Jr. Survivors include Jeanette Robideaux and her husband Wayne of Lafayette, Elise Medrano of New Orleans, Jacqueline Poret and her husband Stanley of Mansura, Bernadette Prevot of Lafayette, Kathleen Layfield and her husband Richard of Mansura, Mark Prevot and his wife Sonja of Baton Rouge, and Peter Prevot of New Roads. In addition, she is survived by 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Having been left a widow at a young age, Mama supported her family by operating a restaurant, Sybils for several years and also worked at Kyrles Restaurant and Cile and Maries Restaurant. Mama never met a stranger and was known for her humorous antics, her love of dancing, her gift of story telling in French, her generosity, and her infectious smile She will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Hospice Care of Avoyelles, Valley View Health Care Facility and Oakmont Assisted Living.
