Funeral services for Verdie Katherine Smith of Hamburg will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 beginning at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moreauville with Fr. Jose Pallipurath officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Moreauville. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Escude Funeral Home.
Verdie Smith, age 91, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie K. Smith; her parents, Kaniel & Ezilda Gauthier; sons, Eddie K. Smith, Jr. & Willard J. Smith; brothers, Jules Gauthier (Ramona), Huey Gauthier, Ruffin Gauthier (Lillian), Willard Gauthier (Enola), Allen Gauthier (Evon), & Harold Gauthier (Imogene); sisters, Florida Bordelon (Oscar), Pearl Begley, & Mathilda Aymond (Charlie).
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Lois M. Chaves (Ronald P.) of Baton Rouge, Ezilda Smith of Baton Rouge, James A. Smith of Baton Rouge, Stanley P. Smith (Barbie) of Calhoun, and Carl A. Smith (Annie) of Denham Springs; daughter-in-law, Barbara Smith; brother, K.L. Gauthier (Jerry) of Laplace; sisters, Joyce Reech (Buddy) of Baton Rouge & Lelia Conway (Mike) of Mandeville; sister-in-law, Betty Gauthier. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren & nine great-grandchildren.
