Virginia Maillet

Services for Virginia Bordelon Maillet will be at 11:00am on Monday, February 3, 2014 at the St. Peters Catholic Church of Bordelonville with Msgr. Steve Testa officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery in Bordelonville under the direction of Escud Funeral Home of Mansura.
Mrs. Maillet, 70, of Bordelonville, passed away at the Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital on January 31, 2014. Born in Alexandria, she was raised in Bordelonville, attended BHS and graduated in 1961. She attended Alexandria Business College and completed the secretarial courses. She began employment in May 1962 with the Dept. of Education in Baton Rouge. She followed her husband, who was in the Air Force to Lubbock, Texas and worked at the Quinn Connelley Pontiac Dealership until December 1964. She returned to Baton Rouge and was again employed with the Dept. of Education. In July 1969, she moved to Lafayette and began employment with Vocational Rehabilitation as a secretary. She was promoted to secretary at the New Hope Center for mentally retarded individuals in 1970. Later that year was promoted back to Vocational Rehab where she was Secretary for the regional office which included Lafayette and Lake Charles area. In July 1972, she moved back to Bordelonville and began employment at the Welfare Office in Marksville. In January 1990, she was promoted to Supervisor and held that position until her retirement in Sept. 1998 after 33 years of service with the State of Louisiana.
She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and a Eucharist Minister. She taught catechism for 12 years and belonged to the St. Peters Altar Society as well as a member of the St. Peters choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Presley Bordelon.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel P. Maillet two sons, Trent Maillet and Troy Maillet one daughter, Tresha Maillet all of Moreauville four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at the St. Peters Church Hall of Bordelonville from 5:00pm to 10:00pm and will resume Monday morning at 8:00am.
