Memorial services for Bill will be held on Saturday, January 30th, 2021 at the Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church of Flower Mound, TX at 11:00am.
William Shelby Maddie “Bill” of Flower Mound, Texas passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 20th, 2020 at age 59.
Bill was born in Simmesport, Louisiana on May 2, 1961 to Frank and Gladys Mayeux Maddie.
After graduating from Simmesport High School in 1979, Bill went on to attend LSU, where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Despite having perfect attendance at every social event, Bill graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Bill began his insurance career in Houston, Texas. Soon after he moved to Dallas, Texas where he met his wife of 29 years, Leslie Tomlinson Maddie of Clarksdale, Mississippi, at the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament.
Bill was a true “lover of life”. His energy and excitement for all he did was infectious and inspiring. He was a true outdoorsman, lover of golf, fishing, hunting, and grilling. Bill had a zest for entertaining, and loved a full house. To Bill, there were no strangers, only friends he hadn’t met yet. He had an uncanny way of making you feel like you had been his friend forever even if you only met him once: he left an indelible mark of genuine happiness on your heart.
Bill had an extremely successful career in the insurance industry and ultimately became VP of Risk Control for construction at Arch Capital Group, a company where he truly loved working. It’s been said by his co-workers the minute he stepped through the doors of Arch, the company forever changed. When they remember Bill, they remember a man who embodied characteristics that just “don’t exist much” in this world anymore.
His wife Leslie, daughter Mary Allen, and son Shelby were the true loves of his life. Mary Allen followed in her father’s footsteps, graduating from LSU. Shelby, however bucked tradition and became an Arkansas Razorback. Bill wore Razorback red as proudly as he did the purple and gold, as long as the teams weren’t both on the field. Bill was the biggest cheerleader for his family’s endeavors. The Maddie Four had many adventures that took them all around the world, but Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas were home to the most cherished memories “Family”.
Bill lived with passion, led by example, and loved like Jesus. He will be extraordinarily missed by many.
Bill is preceded in death by his father Frank John Maddie. He is survived by wife Leslie Tomlinson Maddie, daughter Mary Allen Maddie, son Shelby Maddie, his mother Gladys Maddie, brother Tommy Maddie & wife Cindy (daughters Natalie Maddie, Lindsey Dauzat and Brooke Martel), and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and to Shepherd Inn.
A memorial visitation will held on Saturday, December 19, 2020, 7:30am to 11:00am at Escude Funeral Home, Simmesport with a funeral Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, Simmesport, in conjunction with his mother, Gladys, whom recently passed away.
