Funeral service for Edward “Ben” Sampson, Jr. of Mansura will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura with Fr. Irion St. Romain officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Mansura.

Edward Sampson, Jr., age 54, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born on January 8, 1967. He was baptized at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Mansura. He attended school at Mansura High School until dropping out of school. In 1985, Edward completed the course to obtain his GED. Throughout his working years, Edward, Jr. worked several jobs to include working for the Town of Mansura as a one-man cleaning crew, construction, Bill’s Dollar Store, Allen Canning, Paragon Casino, Chicken Palace, and several odd jobs involving landscaping.

Edward, Jr. was the third born of eight children and he was the oldest son. He enjoyed spending time with his family and some very close friends. He also enjoyed playing basketball in his younger years which is where he was given the nickname “Any Ha”. In 1991, Edward, Jr. was blessed with the birth of his son, Amartinaz Jones, Sr. and again with the birth of his daughter, E’Myra Jones in 1999 with whom were created in love with longtime friend Kehatha Jones. He loved his children dearly and would do anything he could for them.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, E’Myra Jones of Mansura; mother, Rose Marie Sampson of Mansura; two grandsons, A’Martinaz Jones, Jr., and De’Monte Jones both of Mansura; four sisters, Dorothy A. Augustine (Russell), Authuratte Wright, Mary E. Carmouche, and Stephanie Thomas all of Mansura; brothers, Quentin C. Sampson, and Michael A. Sampson both of Mansura; brother-in-law, Russell Augustine; best friend/children’s mother, Kehatha Jones. He also leaves behind eight aunts, Marie Barton (Hamilton) of Marksville and Madeline LaCour of Alexandria; Joyce Sampson of Las Vegas, NV, Hortensia Sampson of Fontana, CA, Clarinda Sampson of Los Angeles, CA, Gwendolyn Collins (Lionel) of Killeen, TX, Linda Francisco and Charmaine Francisco both of Katy, TX; three uncles, (godfather) Darrell Francisco (Elamae) of Ocean Side, CA, Zachary Francisco of Katy, TX, and Christopher Francisco of Chandler, AZ; two godchildren, Albert Young, Jr. and De’Layna Murray Slaughter both of Mansura. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers: Demond Samspon, Sr., Najee Augustine, Scott Augustine, Michael O. Sampson, Albert Young, Jr., and Lamar Washington. Honorary pallbearers: A’Martinaz Jones, Jr., Devin Thomas, Patrick Augustine, De’Monte Jones, DeMarcus Thomas, Quention Sampson, Demond Sampson, Jr. Ronnie “Lil” Day, Jr., and Michael A. Sampson.

He was preceded in death by his son, A’Martinaz Jones, Sr.; father, Edward Sampson, Sr.; brother, Patrick J. Sampson; maternal grandparents, Joseph “Pee Chu Do” & Dorothy Francisco; paternal grandparents, Paulin & Regina Batiste Sampson; godchild, Justin Heath.

Visitation will begin at 8:00am until time of service on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura.
