Funeral Mass for Joanne Theresa Christoffel Ducote of Hessmer will begin at 3:00pm on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Hessmer with Fr. Edwin Rodriguez-Hernandez officiating. Burial will be held at the St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Joanne Theresa Christoffel Ducote, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the Hessmer Nursing Home. Joanne was born in Hessmer, LA on August 28, 1930. She holds the distinct title of being the last baby home birth in Hessmer by the local doctor.

Joanne graduated from Hessmer High School in 1947. After high school she joined her sweetheart, Alvin Joseph Ducote, and attended SLI, now the University of Lafayette. After Alvin graduated, they married on December 28, 1949. They set their roots in Hessmer and it became their permanent home.

Joanne always placed God first in her life and reared her children in the Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Ladies’ Altar Society and sang in the choir in her early years. Joanne was always one to lend a hand when she saw someone in need or something to be done.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Susan Jeansonne (Glenn), Randall Ducote (Cynthia), and Allyson Kelly all of Hessmer; 6 grandchildren: David Jeansonne, Ryan Jeansonne, James Ducote all of Youngsville, Michael Ducote, Andrea Ducote, and Madison Kelly all of Hessmer; 6 great-grandchildren, Lila Ducote, Cole Ducote, Lincoln Jeansonne, Harper Jeansonne, Logan Ducote, and Kane Ducote.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Joseph Ducote; parents, Winnfield & Bernadette Novo Christoffel; brother, Ray Christoffel; son-in-law, Jeffrey Kelly; brother-in-law, Kermit Coulon; sisters-in-law, Neva Coulon and Martha Christoffel.

Visitation will begin at 12:30pm until 2:45pm on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Alphonsus Ladies’ Altar Society in Hessmer.
